Parents & Swimmers BEWARE OF THE HEAT
It is getting into the very hot part of the summer and your coaches are working you harder than ever…you get out of the pool
feeling drained, exhausted and just really glad that practice is over. What’s happening is you are beginning to become overcome
by the heat. You aren’t drinking enough before you come to practice, then you’re not drinking enough during practice, then you’re
not drinking enough after practice. You haven’t eaten supper or at least a snack before coming to practice and
YOUR BODY WANTS TO QUIT.
It is vital to your performance, whether in a practice or a meet, to be fully hydrated. The increased heat and humidity of
summer can lead to increased sweating (even when you are in the water!) resulting in more water loss. To compensate, you should
increase your fluid intake daily, keep a water bottle by your lane during workouts, and sip water or a sports drink continuously
during a meet. If your workout will last over 60 minutes, most experts recommend a sports drink over plain water.
Parents it is VERY IMPORTANT that your children are well hydrated before they come to swim practice and have plenty to drink
while they are here. Water is the best fluid to use for hydration and for a two (2) hour swim practice sports drinks are the next
best. Sports drinks replace necessary electrolytes as well as just the fluid that your child’s body needs from the physical
activity related to practice.
Saturday’s Meet vs. Victory Lakes @ HOME
Be at the pool by 6:00am to be ready for warm-ups at 6:10am. Check in with your coach right away so they know you are there. If you haven’t
signed up yet in a volunteer position, please see Sara (the lady with the clipboard) or email her at sarajane521@comcast.net. We especially
need help with positions off the deck such as clerks of course, ribbons, concessions, and runners. We can easily and quickly train you for
any of these spots and you’d really be helping out the team!
HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?
Team Breakfast 7/25 @ 8:00am
Bring your favorite breakfast food and drinks and join us for our annual end of season breakfast!
Divisionals July 26th
I know we say this every year, but can you believe Divisionals is just around the corner? It’s always a busy, hectic, frantic, extremely
exciting and high energy meet, so make sure you come! It is also a long morning so come prepared with sunscreen, snacks, activities, and
extra drinks for your swimmers. Bring anything DUCK related to help decorate our area—fresh posters are always welcome, too! The volunteer
sheet has already started circulating and the “hot” spots are nearly filled so find Sara and secure your favorite spot before it’s gone.
The special Divisional t-shirts will be available at the meet so don’t forget to pick yours up when we get there. The very cool swim caps
are in as well and they look AWESOME!!
Home meet concessions
You can start bringing your donations to practices anytime for our home meet on Saturday. We always need Gatorade, canned coke and
pepsi products, pasta salad and fruit salads. We are also looking to have a few extra people on hand during the meet to help out
with concessions. If it gets really busy down there (which is always does!) and people have to wait in long lines they get frustrated
and leave and we lose money. Even if you can just help for a quick 30-45 minutes they can use all the help you can give!
See Amber or Leonard if you have any questions.
Board Positions Open
Each year at our end of season picnic we elect new board members to replace current members who are vacating positions. If you would
like to be considered for a board position please let a current member know ASAP! We are also in need of committee members to help
with things such as fundraising, recruiting, equipment, and computer support. We would love to have some new people step forward to
ensure the continued success and strength of our team. If you have any questions or would like more information about a certain
position, please talk to Jay or another board member.
End of Year Picnic on July 27th
Watch for a special announcement from Leonard and Amber regarding our annual picnic. As we get a bit closer we will have the times confirmed
and you will know what you have to contribute in the way of food and drinks. We hand out awards, give gifts, have a raffle, elect new board
members, eat, and then head to Splashdown to finish off the season goofing off on the slides or floating in the lazy river. It’s a great time
so be sure to put it on your calendar!

Concessions Donations |
|
We will be
in need of concession donations during the season for our home meets We are asking each family
to donate Canned Sodas (Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi,
Sprite or Dr. Pepper), 20 oz Gatorade (Fruit Punch, Cool Blue or
Lemon-lime) or Bottled water (no sports tops please).
We will also
need donations of Pasta Salad (we found that noodles, a small
amount of veggies, cheese, and dressing works great, or just noodles and
dressing is good too). Fruit Salad is also a big seller. We’ll
need these brought to Concessions on the morning of the meet. Please let
Leonard or Amber know what you plan to bring, so we know what to expect. |
